"K'Gari Whale Tales" FF418 from the 2023 series.
Deep beneath a long gone, ancient inland sea in western Queensland a stone laid waiting to be brought to the surface to see sunlight for the first time. An accomplished miner, Ken, with one strike of his prospecting pick reveals a beautiful opalised matrix picture stone of a sea of whales and dolphins at play. These stones then found there way into the loving hands of opal sculptor, artist Michael. Then skillfully carved and polished to maintain its incredible natural picture. All through the working of these stones, very strong intuitive feelings of an image and name of a first nation elder of the Butchulla and Woppaburra country resonated repeatedly and it soon became obvious who shall become the holder of such a unique natural treasure.

Once the two halves of this unique stone was finished and presented on a beautiful piece of Red River Gum timber, the artist then found himself on a journey that took him to the east coast of Australia.
Michael and the stones finally parted on the front verandah of Debra (K'gariamamiri) who's totems are Buthoo, meaning Dolphin and Mugga Mugga, meaning Humpback Whale. She is the carer and protector of K"Gari island and its waters, the birthing place of whales.
