About the Artist

Michael Clark, the sculptor, is an original and talented artist who in the course of his life, has discovered an innovative and creative approach to carving Australia’s iconic National gemstone, OPAL.

Part of Michael’s unique style is that the stone is not an object to dominate, bring into submission or conformity, but rather to allow the Opal to reveal and liberate itself.

Opal is an ancient treasure waiting to be discovered, containing 100 million years of spirit and stories. As a gemstone, it stands alone in displaying its own unique ability to split white light and produce a vibrant intensity and variation of electric, iridescent colours.

Queensland Boulder Opal is attractive and different due to the natural hosts, ironstone and sandstone, which, together, create an outstanding partnership with the banding and swirling of the natural stone. This challenge lends both inspiration and great stability to these unique carvings.

Michael‘s sculptures are displayed on beautiful Australian native timber stands which are crafted especially to accompany each individual opal sculpture.

Michael’s extensive knowledge and understanding of landscapes, history and Australian culture are what he draws on for his inspiration.

Each piece is carefully coaxed from primal stone, is part of a Signature Series, and range from “picture stones” to abstract and surreal, as well as freeform, purely organic sculptures. These “one of a kind” art works are investment pieces which are titled, catalogued and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Recommendation from Peter Christianos :
"Michael is a very creative designer who loves what he does. His sculptural works of art are rendered in boulder opal and yowah nut opals. The naturally diverse colours and rock textures are cultivated by his talented hands often taking months to conceive. Such awe-inspiring artefacts make excellent home or corporate decorations, gifts or award-like trophies.
Michael and his life partner Lorrae are genuinely warm people who are projectionists of Feng Shui and positive energy."
Service Category: Gemstone carver.
Stan Henderson You sure know how to get the most out of your specimens mate, a real artist.
Beth McKillop Mother Earth creates over millennia, and then Michael connects and tunes in with the opal in a synergistic relationship to bring out its very best qualities! What an amazing collaboration.
Etta B.Goodstein Beautiful.
Suzanne White What an amazing collection you have created Michael.❤️
Such artistic & futuristic flair in your "one of a kind" sculptures that displays all the beautiful Opal & patterns that were created in the Ironstone & clay stone host rock by Mother Nature.
You are a "Master" in your field of carving & creating your rare masterpieces.
Well done.!!!
Presentation & photography is also beautifully done by Lorrae to showcase the finished artwork.
Both of you are a wonderful team and you are creating a fantastic collection for future generations to see & admire.
It would be a great asset & National Treasure to see them displayed in the Australian National Museum for local, interstate, & International visitors to see & enjoy.
